My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Art was my favorite class from preschool to 12th grade, but I was also good at math(?).
2.
Tried combining my skills by majoring in Arts Management, even though I wasn't sure what it was.
3.
Took a graphic design class to appease my mother.
4.
Once I learned the software, I realized all of the creative and problem solving possibilities.
5.
Switched my major to Graphic Design.
6.
Applied to my school's BFA program on a whim and got in.
7.
Interned with the Office of Creative Services, doing marketing for IU.
8.
Nabbed a job at Hobsons, doing marketing for colleges and universities nationwide.

You don't want to be a starving artist. You're too smart for that, you should be a doctor or lawyer.
How I responded:
Art is not a fall-back for less intelligent people. Just because you're good at math doesn't necessarily mean you should pursue a career in it. It means you're a problem solver, and that can be applied to a ton of creative occupations.
