I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
First I was taken from my native country to the USA to meet up with my father when I was 4.
2.
My mother crossed The Rio Grand with 4 kids. My sister and I were crossed first. On April 1981.
3.
We arrived to an apt complex with different people. Different from anything I had ever seen.
4.
Played with Africans, Chinese, Arabs, Anglos. Nobody understood each other but we played fairly well.
5.
As a teenager I had to choose between Mexican Americans or Mexicans. I had to prove myself.
6.
Got involved in gangs. Went to jail. Got deported. Left my son behind. And continued to mess up in Mex.
7.
Grandma died. It was devastating. I was told I was important. Asked to teach English. So I did.
8.
I was given a chance to teach at a school. Studied grammar. Now I have my own English School.

How I responded:
All we have to do is to focus on what really makes us happy not what makes anybody else happy. We should always have a goal set, maybe not big ones to start but something you can look forward to everyday. There will always be that one person who will want to put you down in certain ways but you have to stay away from them as much as you can. If it is a family member, well you should express how you feel and try and put an end to it. If it is a teacher you must report them to a higher authority.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I had to get deported to overcome my difficulties and found out the hard way that family were the only ones that stayed by you no matter what. I regret everything I made them go through. My son, I don't even know my son and that, my friend, hurts.
