My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Kicked out of high school, picked myself back up, went back and graduated.
2.
Started college immediately after HS, figured out the fastest way to graduate and to get a job.
3.
Started in a job which wasn't my first choice but eventually led to what I wanted.
4.
Developed a strong reputation in my field and eventually went for added graduate work, which led to me changing jobs.
5.
Applied for jobs in other countries as a high school counselor, eventually leading to work in 5 different countries outside of the US.

Messages from Friends:
Teachers don't make that much money. Teenagers are so difficult to work with... why would you want to put yourself through that?
How I responded:
If you stick around long enough to get a graduate degree and if you choose to broaden your horizons a bit into the international market, there are so many financially viable options as an educator that it will make your head spin. Opportunities to travel and work with students who really want to learn makes for a satisfying and meaningful quality of life.

Make a commitment to yourself that you will not let anything get in your way. Make a decision to attend a school where you did not have to go deeply into debt. Don't listen to all the naysayers around you.
