I've taken a lot of twists and turns

1.
Worked as a "nursing assistant" until I became an RN.
2.
Worked nights in dialysis until I got my BSN and MSN.
3.
Worked in dialysis as an educator until I got my NP.
4.
Volunteered on an Approver board and worked as an NP in dialysis.
5.
Became an Administrator -and still worked as an NP at the same facility.
6.
Became a Quality Improvement Director for Medicare.
7.
Became a Nursing Instructor while I worked on my doctorate.
8.
Director of CE for several nursing associations -and now Director of CE for Walden University.

THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
It will take you years to complete your doctorate.
How I responded:
I took it one course at a time - truly learning everything that I could about the content -and checked off a list when I successfully completed each course. My son (then 16) wrote a note to me that said, "You can do anything for 12 weeks" -I taped that to the top of my computer.

I went to school while I worked a FT position, had a teenager in HS, caring for my father-in-law with cancer and helping my husband with his business. I wanted that doctorate -so, I made it all fit - I refused to quit or give in or give up.
